Tey'Gan was a child again, as she slept. She welded a knife, and swift feet. While the men grunt in their efforts to hold back the raiding horsemen, Tey'Gan and a few others lead the women and children into the mines. She is reliving the raid in her dreams.
"Stay here." Tey had told her baby sister centuries ago. A boy, Tey's brother, Jay'Shen, had approached her, insisting he fight with the men, while she stay, like the other women. Tey smiled at his cocky bravery, and gave him a gentle shove before dashing to the villiage, dagger in hand.
She wasn't much older than her siblings. The other Sho'Gen women called out to her in protest, but she ignored them. Her mind was filled with her father's teachings of honor & duty. He also taught her to use a dagger, and she would use what she had learned to save her village.
The horsemen were like monsters, covered with fur, and horns from their pointy heads. Their mounts were inky mares with firey eyes. Dark faces were hidden behind matted fur. They made harsh and scratchy sounds as they fought. There was no beauty to these creatures, Tey had noted. They are ugly and hard.
She repeated her father's words in her head, "Bravery and courage is action, despite fear."
"I am brave!" she cried to the crackling fires about her. This was her battle cry as she stood feet apart and dagger at the ready.
Something drove her to the cobblestone street by her golden hair. She looked up to see a monster hovering above her. "Yes you are, lil' mutt." He had growled. But she could not understand his language.
Yeah, well, I've gotta work on this page still. I wasn't even going to put that excerpt up there, it was all I had at the time. I'll fix this page ASAP.
